I just completed an experimental 3D animation called Ad Infinitum! Look for it at your local film fest!
You can also see the teaser on YouTube in HD 720p-> LINKI used ZBrush to make the base geometry and textures. Synopsis: "Ad Infinitum" is an exploration of the fractal like details of a sculptural continuum. Why make Ad Infinitum? · To explore filmmaking through using intuitive image creation techniques · To make imagery that will inspire those who see it and show that digital media can evolve from using intuition and spontaneity. · To touch upon the metaphysical features of reality, mainly time, space, and the concept of infinity. Here are some screenshots of the sculpts... Here's what's happening... o "Ad Infinitum" is a sculptural continuum that continuously unfolds before your eyes by revealing finer and finer details emanating from a single point. What you are seeing on the screen is not the camera delving deeper and deeper into the sculpture. The sculpture pieces are actually expanding and the camera is just simply observing it from different angles. Each sculpture piece can be thought of as a perfect square plane with a hole in the center that is exactly half the size of the square. As the square expands, eventually the hole in the center of the square becomes the same size as the original size of the square. By continually expanding the series of squares in a linear procession by powers of two, each piece scales from an imperceptibly small size to an incredibly enormous size with no gap between the squares. This procession is a cycle where the last square in the series seamlessly combines with the first. The sculptural continuum shifts intermittently from three dimensional to a variety of two dimensional designs. These two dimensional images were created by accident while applying colors to the sculptures. I liked the results so much that I decided to process the images and include them in the film. |

Here's a GIF that shows how these parts are linked together. Basically all of the sculpted pieces fit perfectly inside one another. I'm using simple powers of 2 math to make each sculpted piece expand, revealing the piece inside it...Like looking into a fractal
![]() ....Hmmm...I can't upload it. It's under 500k...??? Thanks for the posting info Moni |

I don't know what's the deal with GIFs, I've tried to upload a few for the past couple of days and it didn't work either. Anyway, that's amazing what you got there, I wish I could see it in motion! Can we have a sneak peek at the film, maybe?

That's some really cool stuff. you should check out this documentary on BBC 4. It's about chaos theory, infinte, repeating patterns in nature and the underlying mathematical formulas...

Very unique use of ZBrush! It would be great if you could provide detailed info about your step-by-step techniques here. I'm sure the community would find it very useful and informative!
